BioFoodTech’s client Dr. Subrata Chowdhury of RPS Biologiques develops sustainable, natural products for aquaculture, animal and human health sectors. With the help of BioFoodTech’s technical staff, RPS has been conducting bench and pilot scale development trials on a number of different products since 2015. Recently RPS has brought one of these products – Supratect™ – to the market.
Supratect™ is a nontoxic, environmentally friendly plant extract that is used to maintain fish health by combating Saprolegniosis, also known as “water mold fish disease”. Field trials are taking place now, which show that Supratect™, made entirely from plant material, is as effective as chemical based competitive products. So far this year, approximately 4000 L of Supratect™ has been produced at BioFoodTech.
Recently, distinguished guests met with Dr. Chowdry at BioFoodTech, to share news about government investments in the company’s growth. Hon. Sean Casey, MP for Charlottetown, along with Hon. Wade MacLauchlan, Premier of Prince Edward Island and guests from ACOA, Innovation PEI toured his production operations at BioFoodTech. The next steps for Dr. Chowdhury and his team are to continue with field testing, and enter a larger market by scaling up their production at BioFoodTech, before eventually moving into their own facility.
